Top three Mountain biking trails in Cyprus

Top Trail Guide Paul Dionysiou shares his three favorite Cyprus MTB Trails

Cyprus is undoubtedly becoming one of the top Mountain Biking destination in the Mediterranean and this shouldn’t come as a big surprise, the weather in Cyprus is amazing, you get at least 10 sunny months for cycling and you can find scenic routes from the Pine Tree forests of Troodos to the scenic trails of Akamas along the sea side.

For today’s post we managed to have a chat with Top Tour Guide and Akamas Mountain Bike Tour Leader Paul Dyonisiou. Paul has spent the past 12 years trekking and Cycling across Cyprus discovering Trails and Guiding avid Mountainbikers around the best trails Cyprus has to offer. While Paul is riding many different trails every week, three trails are his all-time Cyprus favourites and he agreed to share them with us in todays post. So lets get right to it.

Trail Nr1: 2000 to 0

The Troodos to Paphos Epic Ride

2K to Zero is not so much a trail but more an Epic Riding experience in Cyprus. The trail starts at the highest point of Cyprus Mount Olympus. The first segment winds around some very scenic single trails overlooking Cyprus in every direction. The trail then winds through the Troodos forest through many scenic villages such as Prodromos and Pedoulas and then follows the Diarizos River bed passing the Ancient Knights Templar City of Foinikas leading to the Asprokremos Dam where you find the final tough climb (which can be voided via shortcut) before riding through some villages to Paphos. 2000 to 0 is not an easy ride. Although it sounds like its all down hill be warned it is not. The route has a total of 1270 meters of elevation over 106 Kilometres and requires endurance and skills.

Trail Stats

Total Distance: 106 Kilometres (65 Miles)

Total Elevation: 1270 Meters (4166 Feet)

Total Time: 4 to 6 hrs depending on riders

Difficulty Level 8/10

Loop: No

Trail Features: Single Track, Enduro, Fast Descends, Plenty Climbing

Notes: You need an uplift to Mount Olympus for this trail, a guide is highly suggested as its easy to get lost in the Troodos Forest. While the trail is not the most technical, some single trails are very narrow going along cliffs. A trail guide and support are considered a must if you have not ridden this trail before.
