SUNringlé DÜROC 30 PRO 29″ Review

It’s no secret, I have been a fan of Hayes for a couple of years now. The reason is simple, their products are high quality and don’t break the bank. For the last 2-3 years I have been riding with DÜROC Wheels and this is my 3rd SUNringlé wheelset.

When I first started riding, I had big wheels. 3 Inch plus tires with DÜROC 40 Rims. But as I was upgrading wheels I gradually moved to thinner sizes until I reached my favourite sweet spot. The DÜROC 30 PRO 29″ is exactly the size I had settled on. So before we get in to the review, lets look at my spec’s and the kind of trails I ride to give you a baseline.

About SUNringlé DÜROC 30 PRO 29″

The SUNringlé DÜROC 30 PRO 29″ is a high-performance mountain bike rim that is known for its combination of strength and durability. The DÜROC 30 PRO is made from high-quality materials, including a proprietary aluminum alloy, which provides the perfect balance of stiffness and compliance. The rim is also tubeless-ready, making it possible to run lower tire pressures for improved grip and comfort on the trails. The DÜROC 30 PRO is also designed to be lightweight, yet strong enough to handle the demands of aggressive riding. With its exceptional build quality and attention to detail, the SUNringlé DÜROC 30 PRO 29″ is an excellent choice for mountain bikers who want a rim that can stand up to the rigors of the trails.

My Setup

My Bike is a Trek Fuel from 2017. I have made various upgrades including fork, shock, wheelset, bars, breaks, drive train and… well pretty much everything except the frame.

The wheelset is the SUNringlé DÜROC 30 PRO 29″, the bike was initially a 27.5+ but I swapped to 29 inches after the 1st wheelset. My tires are Maxxis Minions, the famous DHF and DHR II Combo.

My Trails and Riding Style

Now although I use Minions, I don’t really ride downhill. The kind of trails I enjoy are 30-50 km long climbing between 500 and 1000 meters elevation. To translate this for my US buddies, that’s around 20-30 miles and 1500 – 3300 feet elevation. Now the minions are not really built for climbing but I really love the grip they provide on the way down so I don’t mind putting in the extra work on the way up.

The terrain is usually rocky, slippery and fast. I avoid drops since I broke my collarbone and tore my AC tendon earlier this year. Cyprus is quite dry, so a lot of the terrain here is very dry with lots of Vulcanic sharp rock and.

The Wheel Specs

Let’s have a look at the SUNringlé DÜROC 30 PRO 29″ Specs. The Duroc 30 Pro is built with a double walled welded alloy and is tubeless ready. They come lined with tubeless tape out of the factory. The new line of duroc’s also comes with the all-new super bubba x hub. The Bubba hub is adjustable and allows for 8 degrees of engagement for fast heavy-duty use or to 4 degrees for super-fast engagement. Here are all the specs:

Super Bubba Hubs

The all-new bubba hubs are adjustable from 8 to 4 degrees. At 4 degrees they have a super fast engagement. While 8 degrees is still fast (not as fast as 4) its meant for more heavy duty rides. The hubs are really well build, they react super fast. A great upgrade to the duroc pro series.

The Review

For this review I will go through build quality, weight, price and an overall verdict. If you feel some information is missing, or you have any questions regarding this mountain bike wheelset, please leave a comment and I will get back and update the review accordingly.

Build Quality

Just as expected, the Build Quality of the DÜROC 30 PRO is above expectations. They are really well built and can really take a bashing. I have tested them on my local gravity trail going through rock gardens, gnarly corners and even a couple of drops (although I avoid them due to my recently broken collarbone and torn AC ligament) The duroc’s take it all like a boss. I will do another quality review after 1000km but for now the quality score is definitely 10/10.

Weight

At a total of 1760 grams the wheelset has a good weight. Especially when compared to other brands in this quality range. The equivalent weight and quality from other well known will run you almost double the price over the Hayes wheels.

True they are not the lightest but considering price and quality, the weight is amazing. Weight score 8/10.

Price

The price is where the Duroc 30 Pro is really unbeatable. At the time of this review the full wheelset has a retail price of 900 USD. Now while that seems like a lot for a wheelset don’t forget this is a Pro wheelset and compared to other brands in the same category such as DT Swiss, Hope and Raceface where you spend almost the same amount on a rear wheel only, 900 USD is a great deal. For price in its category, the Duroc 30 Pro gets a score of 9/10

The Verdict

The Duroc 30 Pro is an excellent mountain bike wheel that can take a real bashing on the trails. The wheelset is light enough to climb with and comes tubeless ready from the factory. The fact that the wheels come ride ready, with valves, tubeless liquid and even with torque rings for the front axle is a massive plus. Just pop your tires on and you are ready to go.

I can without any hesitation recommend the SUNringlé DÜROC 30 PRO 29″ for any mountain bike rider that hits gnarly trails, climbs and enjoys a long day out. Although I am positive that this wheelset will even hold up in enduro and downhill scenarios.

If you have any questions about the wheelset, please feel free to post them in the comments.

Keep well and Ride Safe
