Manitou Mattoc Pro 3 – 27.5+ / 29er – Review

A complete review of the Manitou Mattoc Pro 27.5+ 29er 2018 Mountain Bike Fork. So I finally decided to upgrade the Fork on my Fuel EX, after endless research and googling the decision was made. Manitou’s Mattoc Pro was my choice for three major reasons:
  1. It had the best price to benefit/quality ratio
  2. It had the features I was looking for (more in the review)
  3. It looked bloody awesome
So after riding the Mattoc Pro 27.5+ for a couple of months, I am ready to give you my honest feedback in the review below.

Quick Summary

Now for those who dont want to read the whole review, here is a quick summary. In my humble opinion, the Mattoc Pro 2018 is the perfect fit for Trails, Enduro and All Mountain Riding. There are some small things that bother me but these are rather small details that mostly dont interfear with your riding. All in all its a high quality fork at a much lower price than the competitors, tons of tuning options and it can take a massive beating on any trail.

The Specs

Before we get in to the review, below are the specs of the three Mattoc Pro options. For my bike I have chosen the 27.5+ which comes with adjustable 120 – 140mm of travel. My local Bike Shop happens to be a Mattoc Dealer and Kayser LBS was kind enough to adjust the travel for me. Before buying any fork make sure you choose the correct size for your bike.

Built Quality

As expected, the Built Quality of the Mattoc Pro 2018 is simply spot on. It is made from 7050 Butted Aluminium which is basically Aerospace grade Aluminium. If it’s good enough for NASA it sure enough will work for my fork. The 34mm leg diameter gives the Fork a strong and stiff feel and riding it off drops and jumps has proven to be no problem for the Mattoc Pro what so ever. Built Quality Rating is 9/10.

Features

The Mattoc Pro comes with a ton of tweakable features. This allows you to really dial in what you want from your fork. Below is a list of adjustments you get on your Mattoc Pro in addition to the pressure in the cartridge.
  • TPC Rebound – This controls the speed at which the wheel returns to a sagged position after a compression event.
  • MC2 Hi-Speed – This sets the Pedal Platform achieved when Low Speed is at Maximum. It controls the unsprung chassis over square edge bumps at higher velocity.
  • MC2 Low-Speed – Controls damping for sprung chassis movement such as Pedaling, Pumping, Berms, G-Out etc
  • HBO Bottom Out – HBO Controls the damping force for deep travel sprung chassis movements such as Jumps and Drops.

What size tire did you use on the 29″ wheel? Was there any issues with clearance?
Cheers, Paul
